Construction Begins

It will be wonderful when our new building is complete, but be aware that for now there are some inconveniences surrounding the Savannas Education Center including some trail closures, dust and noise, and fewer parking spaces.  These are temporary.  Please pardon our dust and be on the lookout for updates in the construction process.

Pioneer Day Festival

Pioneer Day is fast approaching!  Join us for a day of old fashioned games & crafts,  sing-alongs, storytelling and more on Saturday, February 21st!  Exhibitors will be on hand to bring history alive with roping, hot coal cooking, quilting, basketry, and more.  Bring the whole family and immerse yourself in our rich Florida history.    The event will include food, and music by the Hot Sauce Boys.  Hope to see you there!

Nest Box Activity

The nest box just outside the Savannas Education Center is being inspected by a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers! The pair used the nest box last summer and we're hoping they'll move back in to raise another brood.  Bring your binoculars, or borrow a pair at the Education Center, so you can get a close up view of our new neighbors.

Wading Birds Feast

The dry season is truly upon us.  As water levels draw down, the fish are concentrated, leaving a fantastic buffet for wading birds!  Early morning is the best time to see them.  Check out the small wetland on your left as you make your way to the Kayak Launch area from the Walton Rd. entrance.
