Exotic Pest Plant Pull

Saturday, November 22  2014

The AmeriCorps from District 5 are coming to Savannas to lead an Exotic Pest Plant Pull .   This is a critical part of our resource management in the park.  Exotic invaders erode our biological diversity by out-competing our native species for space and sunlight.  Please help us give our native flora a fighting chance by participating in this important management activity.  Meet at the Education Center at 9a.m.  Wear closed toe shoes and long pants, sunscreen and a hat.  Please bring a reusable water bottle as well.

Warriors on the Water Comes to State Park
--

Jensen Beach, FL –Area veterans are invited to join the Friends of  Savannas Preserve State Park (FOSPSP) for the premier of Warriors on the Water, a special event to take place Sunday, November 9th from 9am until noon.  Participants will enjoy a guided kayak tour on the pristine marsh system located in the park, followed by a lunch provided by the Friends group.  "This is our way of reaching out to local veterans, to thank them for their service, and to let them know about everything the park has to offer", says Ray Treacy, president of FOSPSP.
Warriors on the Water is the brain child of veteran and Savannas Preserve State Park volunteer, Evelyn Dodd.  "After kayaking on the marsh, I knew I had to share this with my fellow veterans", says Dodd.  "Kayaking in the marsh is so serene and breathtakingly beautiful.  While kayaking you see different flora and wildlife than what you see in other areas of the Savannas.  I want local veterans to experience and know what a treasure the Savannas is.”
Veterans interested in participating in Warriors on the Water should call the Savannas Education Center at (772) 398-2779.  Cost is $5 per person plus paid park admission.   Space is limited and reservations are required.  Veterans are asked to provide identification upon check-in.
The Savannas Preserve State Park is located at 2541 Walton Road in Port St. Lucie.  For information about the Savannas and all of Florida’s award-winning state parks, visit www.FloridaStateParks.org.
