Junior Friends of Savannas competition winners

The Junior Friends of Savannas participated and won the county division in the Indian River Lagoon Regional Envirothon Competition in February 2014. They are off to the State competition in May. No? Here's one solution: The Savannas Preserve State Park will host a guided interpretive walk through pristine Florida wetlands on Saturday, May 17th from 9:00a.m. until 11:00a.m. The pubic in encouraged to come and explore the wild side of the park and enjoy its natural wonders. Adventure awaits participants as they go off the beaten trail with an experienced guide. Too often, wetlands are misunderstood and undervalued. This program facilitates an understanding of the roles that wetlands play in natural systems, as well as how they benefit people. Due to higher than normal water levels, participants can expect wet and muddy conditions, with water easily up to knee level. A hat, long pants and closed-toe shoes are highly recommended. The Friends of Savannas Preserve State Park proudly presents our 3rd Annual ‘Pioneer Days’ where you can enjoy re-enactments, folk music, old-fashioned games and hayrides all day. Much more can be done with you and/or your whole fam-ily. Stories will be told, woodcarvers will be demonstrating and historians will revive the lives of pioneers from the late 1800s. Food will be for sale during lunch hours, so bring your appetite!

Although the Savannas is currently too dry for kayaking, there is still an abundance of other
activities! Our education committee provided information and activities for over 900 people
during the month of October, through programs
at our park and education center, along with an
ongoing outreach program to local schools.

Awesome Halloween Festivities...

WOW!!!!!!
What an awesome turnout at our Halloween Festivities! On October 24th we had over 400 people enjoy the "Creatures of the Night" event. And for our "Haunted Trail" we had over 140 people travel our spooky trails that evening.
